Traditionally referred to as English Bluebells, these majestic blooms are known differently in some circles, wild hyacinth, cokoos boots, witches thimbles and ladys nightcap.
These extremely fragrant blooms attract all nature of pollenating insects including honey bees. The rich violet blue tubular flowers form on arching stems when grown in shaded areas or woodlands. When grown in open sites the growth can be more upright.
Our native stocks are perfect for woodland settings, conservation areas and shaded gardens.
Field grown English bluebells are perfect for naturalised areas, gras lawns and semi shaded areas of the garden.
Flowering performance can be impacted upon in the first season as a result of varying planting depths, soil conditions, cimate and position. Once established they revert back to their regular growing habits.
Plant a minimum of 8 to 10cm as shallow planting will cause more leaf production in the first season and limite flowering. The bulbs will elongate to find the correct level. On rare occasion white bluebells will sometimes appear.
