Botanically the name for daffodils is narcissus, named after a beautiful youth in Greek mythology who was tricked into falling in love withhis own reflection.
It is thought that the Romans first introduced narcissus into Britain from countries such as Spain and it was not until the eighteenth century that the name daffodil was adopted in Britain.

Planting Time
Plant bulbs during the months of September, October, November and well into December, ideally plant upon receipt.
Daffodils need 12 to 13 weeks of cool conditions to develop a good strong root system and the flowers, ideally between 3 to 9 degrees celsius.
Naturalising Daffodils
Daffodils and narcissi when planted in good, well drained soil can flower for up to 30 years and in exceptional circumstances 50 years.
Naturalising daffodils can be planted in open grasslands, embankments, road side verges, parks, town and village appraches. Allow 10cm around each bulb planted to encourage bulb development and increased flower performance.
